SALT AND HEALTH

THE SALT ESSENTIAL TO LIFE

Salt contains two nutrients without which the body cannot function properly: sodium and chloride.

Salt is the main source of sodium in our diet. It helps distribute water throughout the body, regulates blood pressure and volume, and contributes to the proper functioning of muscles and the heart, as well as the transmission of nerve impulses.

Chloride is essential for digestion and breathing.

AFSSA (Agence Française de Sécurité Sanitaire des Aliments) recommends an average daily salt intake of 6 to 8g/day.
