THE AGRICULTURAL METHOD FOR SEA SALT
Salt is obtained naturally through extraction from the ground or from seawater. Salins is the only European group to utilise all three existing production technologies.
Brine, generally of marine origin, is concentrated by evaporation under the influence of the sun and wind in salt marshes.
Pumped from the sea, the water flows either by gravity or using pumps, passing successively through a series of specially constructed ponds.
It travels a long way before arriving, in the form of saturated brine, thanks to natural evaporation (sun and wind), at the salt pans where the salt crystallises and settles.
THE THERMAL PROCESS FOR IGNEOUS OR IGNEOGENIC SALT
Underground salt deposits, formed from the sediments of ancient seas, are dissolved by injecting fresh water. The brine (highly concentrated salt water) thus obtained is brought to the surface to be evaporated under vacuum in large evaporators, at the bottom of which the salt crystallises.
MINING TECHNIQUES FOR ROCK SALT
Rock salt is extracted from underground salt mines in the form of blocks. These mines date back thousands of years, to a time when oceans evaporated, creating layers of salt that can be several metres thick.
