Nature is second nature to us...
Both for the production and the use of its products, the Salins group is always conscious of the effects its operations could have on the environment :
The production of sea salt, takes place on vast areas of the coastline and uses a renewable resource and energy (the sun and wind). On the Mediterranean coast, SALINS owns 30,000 ha of which 26,000 ha are dedicated to salt marshes. Salt production shapes and protects these wetlands and provides a sanctuary for their exceptional flora and fauna. SALINS is fully aware of this richness and skilfully and professionally manages these areas with a very high degree of responsibility. These wetlands are environmental treasures renowned all over the world. The levels of economic, social and environmental performance reached by the SALINS Group are often hailed as an example of the sustainable management of this planet’s resources.
The production of vacuum salt requires energy to separate the salt and water contained in the brine. Using the most ancient traditions, Salins implements processes which provide very high energy efficiency, thereby contributing to the saving of fossil resources and the release of less heat into the atmosphere.
Ensuring the winter serviceability of the road network saves many lives each year. All of the studies show that the number of accidents is considerably reduced as soon as the road is treated after a snowfall or the appearance of ice. The use of salt for de-icing is the best method in terms of effectiveness, cost and the effects on the environment. However, to minimize these environmental effects even further, the Salins group promotes the use of "smart salting".
