The origins of salt
Since the dawn of time, salt has been the word on everyone’s lips: the salt of life, the salt of the earth, salt’s white gold, etc.
Countless references to salt appear in the domains of religion, economy, science and gastronomy. Few products are so engrained in the collective unconscious.
But, do we really know salt ?
How is salt produced? Is it known that it is present in the majority of objects which surround us?
Is it known that the world health authorities have decided on universal salt iodization to finally combat the scourge of iodine deficiency effectively?
What is to be thought about these controversies which regularly appear in the press? These ‘well-supported’ arguments are, alas, not always backed up by competence or impartiality, for example on the subject of “grey” salt, supposedly ‘natural’ or the effects of salt on health which could explain ‘thousands of deaths per year’.
