Following the abolition of the state monopoly, Compagnia Itiliana Sali (C.I.S) started their food-grade salt production in 1974 launching the brand Gemma, which is sold throughout Italy. CIS was then bought by the Salins Group in 2001 . They also produce de-icing salt.

The Compagnie Générale des Salins de Tunisie – COTUSAL, a Tunisian company with foreign investors, is a subsidiary of the SALINS Group. They run salt works on the salt marshes near the main Tunisian ports. The COTUSAL employees ensure that the company remains a reference on the international market. The salt produced is used in the traditional industries: food, chlorine and soda, fishing and de-icing.
